Single chip microcomputer scheme: how to distinguish the types of single chip microcomputer?

MCU is divided into several categories according to its memory, architecture, bit and instruction set. Therefore, in this paper, we discuss the types of MCU.

Classification of single chip microcomputer:

1、 Bit

8-bit MCU performs logic and arithmetic operations. The example of 8-bit MCU is Intel 8031 / 8051. Compared with 8-bit MCU, 16 bit MCU has higher execution accuracy and performance. The example of 16 bit MCU is Intel 8096. 32-bit MCU is mainly used for automatic control equipment, such as office machines, implantable medical devices, etc. It requires 32-bit instructions to perform any logical or arithmetic function.

2、 Memory

External memory single chip microcomputer: when an embedded structure is constructed by a single chip microcomputer, it does not include all the functional blocks existing on the chip. It is called external memory single chip microcomputer. For example, 8031 single chip microcomputer has no program memory on the chip.

Embedded memory single chip microcomputer: when an embedded structure is composed of a single chip microcomputer, the single chip microcomputer contains all the functional blocks existing on a chip. It is called embedded memory single chip microcomputer. For example, 8051 single chip microcomputer has all program and data memory, counters and timers, interrupts and I / O ports, so it has embedded memory single chip microcomputer.

3、 Instruction system

Cisc-cisc represents a complex instruction set computer, which allows the user to apply one instruction as an alternative to many simple instructions.

Risc-risc represents a reduced instruction set computer. RISC reduces the operation time by shortening the clock cycle of each instruction.
